Un altro passo verso il vino di Siena. Cinque rossi (Mammolo, Gorgottesco, Canina, Prugnolo Gentile e Giacchè) e due bianchi (San Colombano e Procanico), sono i sette vitigni selezionati nell’ambito del progetto “Senarum Vinea”.
Le vigne di Siena, ideato nel 2008 dal Laboratorio di Etruscologia e Antichità Italiche dell’Università di Siena e promosso dall’Associazione Nazionale Città del Vino che, nel prendere in esame il paesaggio urbano della città, ha indicato alcune possibili forme di recupero e valorizzazione di vitigni antichi presenti all’interno del centro storico e nelle immediate vicinanze delle mura medievali.Questi antichi vitigni saranno innestati in viti di Sangiovese coltivate presso l’Azienda Castel di Pugna di proprietà del conte Luigi Fumi Cambi Gado, che è partner del progetto che vede coinvolti anche il Comune di Siena, l’Università degli Studi, la Camera di Commercio, l’Istituto Agrario di Siena “Bettino Ricasoli”, oltre ad altri partner tecnici e scientifici.
L’obiettivo, oltre alla salvaguardia della biodiversità rappresentata da questi vitigni a rischio di estinzione, è anche quello di arrivare alla produzione di un “vino di Siena” (Senarum Vinum), che possa rappresentare l’identità eroica della città. L’innesto è programmato per il 27 maggio e per l’occasione l’Azienda Castel di Pugna ha organizzato un evento, che si terrà a partire dalle ore 17, durante il quale saranno presentati gli sviluppi del progetto “Senarum Vinea” con una visita guidata ai filari delle viti innestate cui seguirà una breve conferenza che si terrà nei saloni messi a disposizione dell’Azienda Castel di Pugna; a chiusura dell’evento l’Azienda offrirà un buffet all’insegna dei prodotti tipici del territorio. I vitigni sono stati rintracciati in orti conventuali (San Domenico e San Girolamo) ma anche poco fuori città, nella zona sud, in Strada di Istieto, Strada di Maggiano, Strada del Linaiolo e fuori Porta San Marco.
